MT5 Foundry technologies
Fields of activity of graduates: digitalization of foundry processes and programming of foundry equipment, computer modeling of casting processes, conducting research in the field of hybrid casting technologies.

О кафедре
The Department of Foundry Technologies was created in the late 20s by Professor N.N. Rubtsov, a graduate of IMTU in 1911, who then worked at the Department of Technology of Metals and Wood. Professors N.P. Aksenov and L.I. Fantalov, also graduates of IMTU, took part in the organization of the department and the foundry laboratory.
Already in 1929, a foundry Laboratory was established on the basis of the foundry and educational foundries. And in 1930, the first unscheduled, quite large at that time, graduation of foundry engineers (about 10 people) took place from undergraduates of the Faculty of Mechanics, who had been mastering the foundry business since 1928 according to special plans.
In the same 1929, about 150 people were admitted to the MVTU for the 3rd year of the foundry specialty, and in 1931 22 people were already graduated.
In the first half of 1930, by order of the Main Directorate of Educational Institutions of the People's Commissariat of Heavy Industry, the already existing and working Department of Foundry was officially approved at the Moscow State Technical University. The head of the department was Prof. N.N. Rubtsov. At the beginning of September 1930, the Department of Foundry was established as a faculty at the Moscow State Technical University under the leadership of Prof. N.P. Aksenov.
After the creation of the Department "Metal Processing by Pressure" in 1932, both departments formed the Faculty of hot metal processing, and later, combining with the "cold" specialties, they formed the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology.
After the creation of the Department "Metal Processing by Pressure" in 1932, both departments formed the Faculty of hot metal processing, and later, combining with the "cold" specialties, they formed the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology.
Until 1933, the department was called "Foundry business", then "Foundry production", since 1957 — "Machines and technology of foundry production", and since 1962 — "Automation and mechanization of foundry processes". After several changes in the 90s, the department received its modern name - "Foundry Technologies".
Outstanding scientists of the department:
- N.N. Rubtsov — Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR, laureate of the State Prize, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor;
- G.F. Balandin — Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor.
