The department of "Metal-cutting machines" was organized in 1930.
О кафедре
The department trains specialists in the specialization "Design of metal-cutting machines and automated machine complexes". Bachelor's degree profile "Equipment technology and automation of machine-building industries". Master's program "Automated machine tool complexes of machine-building production". The main directions of scientific work of the department: automated design and testing of machine tools; accuracy and productivity of machine tools; intelligent control systems and diagnostics of machine tools; design of mechatronic equipment. Scientific projects and research areas: Development of a test methodology for multi-purpose machining centers for high-speed processing. The department conducts joint work with the Institute "Franhofer" Germany, training of teachers at the AG "Kistler" (Switzerland) and the University of Demonfort, Leicester (Great Britain).

The field of professional activity of graduates: computer modeling of work processes in technical systems, 3-D design and modeling of machine tools, automation of bench tests and processing of experimental research results, study of dynamic characteristics of complex mechanical systems, development of control programs in the CAM system for CNC machines. Graduates are in demand by leading enterprises of the machine-building, aerospace, transport, energy, defense industries; institutions of small and medium-sized businesses (jewelry industry, prosthetics), as well as innovative research centers (Skolkovo, Rusnano, Rosatom). The department has organized a Small Innovative Enterprise (MIP) "Modular Mechanics at Bauman Moscow State Technical University", in which students and postgraduates, under the guidance of teachers of the department, solve non-standard tasks for the development and creation of innovative projects in the field of machine tool construction.
