The department has several areas of training and specializations: specialty, bachelor's degree, master's degree. The curriculum of each direction and specialization has unique features, but it necessarily contains disciplines related to automatic control methods and algorithms of intelligent systems for various purposes. Students of all directions are required to get acquainted with the methods of control theory of nonlinear systems, methods of optimal, adaptive, robust and fuzzy control.

During the training, students gain skills in programming applications and elements of entire information systems, get acquainted with the methods of object control theory and algorithms for their implementation, including in on-board control systems of aircraft. Special attention is paid to courses related to the technical means of control systems, microcontrollers and their programming, as well as practical training.

Students of the department undergo practical training at various enterprises of the military-industrial complex, Roscosmos, aviation and space industries, as well as at scientific institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and commercial companies. Special disciplines are often taught by leading specialists of enterprises – heads of departments, departments and deputy general designers.
